The Cerces range forms a bridge between the Northern and Southern Alps. Due to its location, the presence of snow is certain, although it remains sheltered from long bad weather periods. Moreover, the moderate altitude of this area, compared to its neighbors of Vanoise and Ecrins, makes it a perfect spot for ski touring. This place can only be described with positive words: cozy mountain huts, quiet wooded valleys far away from the massive winter sports industry and great views over the highest peaks of the French Alps.
We start this great journey of six days with a skiing day to acclimatize in the quiet Montgenèvre-Clavière ski resort. Here we’ll find perfect off-piste slopes to warm-up. We can hike up the Cime de la Plane in 30 minutes with a great overview to the Cerces, just 15 km further north. After a good day of skiing we take the car to Névache, just across the French border. In this old picturesque village, we will park the car for the rest of the week and we will get up to the beautiful Cristol mountain, to descend to the Buffère hut.
On Tuesday we will continue our journey to the Chardonnet hut, where we will spend the night. Wednesday we cross the high pass via the Ponsonnière lakes to the Drayères hut of more relaxed around the Pain de Sucre to reach the Drayères. As we need to prepare for Thursday, a big and technical day to the Mont Thabor hut. Friday will be the highlight of the week, with the ascent of the stunning 3100 meters-high peak of Mont Thabor with the Notre-Dame-des-Sept-douleurs church on the top.
The descent down the Vallée étroite is one of the finest in the area: not too intense, but endless long: pure enjoyment. We will then get back to Névache to cross the col du Vallon, a pass where wolves can often be seen, and we will arrive at our starting point in the afternoon.
This tour is physically and technically comparable with our Ski and Hike in the Queyras, and is one of the easiest in our program. We will climb around 1000 meters each day, and rest in comfortable huts - some of them even have a shower and a fireplace. The slopes are nice and varied, yet not too technical.
High quality
Our maximum group size is 6 people per guide and in rougher, more exposed alpine terrain, this number will be decrease even more. This allows us to make no concessions on quality or safety, and to give every guest enough personal space and attention to improve.
