Descend
Level D: You are stable in all conditions and on all types of tracks, including moguls. Off-piste, you can ski safely up to 45 degrees under good conditions. Traversing, couloirs and forests are fine for you as well. You still have trouble in some specific types of snow, such as ‘cardboard snow’.
-
Ascend
Level C: You have the ability to hike on terrain that is steeper than 25 degrees or have already used climbing skins or snowshoes.
-
Physical condition
Level C: You have enough condition to get through the whole week off-piste. In addition, you are also able to walk up for two hours in the snow.
This is a freeride trip for the epicure! We are here in Italy. In this week it's not only about great freeriding in mostly small-scale ski resorts, but also the inner man will be cared for. The southern temperament is clearly noticeable. A visit to the authentic northern part of the region of Lombardy will be your surprise of the year! South of the main Alpine ridge we find an area where you can get great freeriding between the larch trees in the valley and at the height of mighty glaciers . The Ademello massif is the most southerly and glaciated area of the Eastern Alps. This ski area with beautiful mountain slopes and steep couloirs is situated just above the paso del Tonale.
Another pearl in the Italian region of Lombardy is the region of the southern Ortler. Here we find four small ski resorts: Bormio, Issolacia , Livigno and Santa Caterina. All area's are within a half hour drive from Bormio.
The freeriding is on a small scale but the potential is enormous. Isolaccia is such an example where it is forbidden to go without a mountain guide off-piste. A real insider's tip so!
Should it be a year in which there is hardly any snow, we are quickly in Sant Moritz or Davos.
We will meet on Sunday evening in the medieval town of Bormio with the beautiful slopes of Lombardia. In the first three days we will be freeriding in the three pearls of small ski areas where we hardly have to climb. Here, we find convenient powder, because it's not allowed to enter this area without a mountain guide. We visit the two thousand years old Roman bathhouse di Bagni Vecchi which provides us a well deserved soak in the serenity.
In the second half of the week, we visit the Passo del Tonale. Here we go freeriding the remaining two days. We do the famous Cantiere and Ficazza descent and one of the most spectacular decents at the front of the area. Of course, the option remains open to make the 2,000 meter deep descent to the back-site. Therefore we have to walk 1,5 hour on the skins. In bad visibility because of the snowfall we find slopes with more shelter a little further on Ponte di Legno. These two ski resorts in the Adamellomassief are still unknown by the international ski scene so we will be probably on our own.
Accommodation
We stay in a simple but comfortable three star hotels with excellent cuisine in several restaurants outside the hotel. The rooms will be for 2 to 3 persons.
High quality
Our maximum group size is 6 people per guide and in rougher, more exposed alpine terrain, this number will be decrease even more. This allows us to make no concessions on quality or safety, and to give every guest enough personal space and attention to improve.
